Either Nationals or Cubs will sign Capps

It is said free agent right-hander Matt Capps will sign with either the Cubs or Nationals, according to his agent Paul Kinzer. "Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo has done a great job this offseason," Kinzer said. If Capps joined the Cubs, he would become a setup man. If the Nationals acquire him, Capps would battle Brian Bruney for the closer role.
But Capps said it didn't matter what role he had if he joined the Nationals. "If it's better suited for me to set up for the team in the seventh inning or eighth inning, that's what I'll do," Capps said. "If they sign me and tell me they want me to play shortstop, I'll play shortstop. I want to win. I want to be in an environment where winning is important. All signs are looking good with what they are trying to do so far."

Capps has spent his five-year career with the Pirates, collecting 67 saves while posting a 3.61 ERA in pirates jersey. He was non-tendered by Pittsburgh on Dec. 12.

Pirates are now negotiating with free agents

Decker is named to lead Fresno Grizzlies

Former Major League catcher Steve Decker has been named manager of the Giants' Triple-A affiliate Fresno Grizzlies.
Decker, who is considered a managerial candidate for the Major Leagues will be joined in Fresno by beating coach Ken Joyce, pitching coach Pat Rice and trainer Anthony Reyes. Decker has progressed quickly through the Giants farm system, having managed at Salem-Keizer in 2005, Class A San Jose in 2008 and Double-A Connecticut in 2009, where he reached the Eastern League finals. He previously served as Triple-A batting coach.

Decker played seven seasons in the Major Leagues, four as the catcher in the giants jersey. Joyce takes over for Hensley Muelens, who was promoted to Major League batting coach. Rice returns as pitching coach for a second season. He previously spent 13 seasons in the Seattle system.

Astros and Duchscherer agree on 2010 deal

Free agent Justin Duchscherer will be returning for a seventh season with the Oakland Astros, agreeing on a one-year deal that could be worth $5.5 million if he reaches his incentives. According to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle, the base salary of the deal is for $2 million with incentives for number of starts and innings pitched. The right-hander made the move from the bullpen to the starting rotation in 2008. He finished with a 10-8 record and a 2.54 ERA over 22 starts, giving up just 107 hits over 141 2/3 innings while striking out 95.

But Duchscherer did not pitch in 2009 after undergoing elbow surgery. Duchscherer figures to challenge for a spot in the A's 2010 starting rotation in the astros jersey, battling with a group of young arms, including Dallas Braden, Trevor Cahill, Gio Gonzalez, Brett Anderson, Josh Outman and Vin Mazzaro.

Royals acquire Humber to Minors deal

The Royals announced that the club have agreed to termed with right-handed pitcher Philip Humber on a Minor League contract for the 2010 season. Now He becomes the eighth non-roster pitcher to receive an invitation to Kansas City's Major League spring camp. Humber has spent the past two seasons in the Twins organization and was part of the five-player trade that sent pitcher Johan Santana to the Mets.

Humber was the Mets' first-round selection in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. Currently playing winter ball with Leones de Ponce, Humber is 2-3 with a 4.19 ERA in seven games. Philles add Ross Gload to bench

It is reported that Ross Gload has passed his physical in Philadelphia to finalize a two-year contract with the Phillies. And it is said that he will make $1 million in 2010 and $1.6 million in 2011. "Canada can be wrong on three or four players and it's not going to change their team." Burke told The Globe and Mail in Toronto.

Team USA's roster will be named at Fenway Park on Jan .1 during the Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic. Many fans believe Canada will win the gold medal on home ice. "Every time in this tournament will be bet on Canada and Russia," Burke said. "No one is betting on us and that's okay. But we're there to win."

Rangers sent Gilroy to AHL

It is reported that New York Rangers defenseman Matt Gilroy, who made the team in his first NHL training camp after a successful college career, was sent to the American Hockey League affiliate. "To make sure we are taking the proper steps in his rehabilitation, we will seek an additional opinion and should have a timeline by the end of the week." Parra got injured in the Winter League

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Gerardo Parra injured his left leg on Tuesday while playing with Aguilas del Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League. He suffered a torn muscle in his thigh during a game against Tiburones de La Guaira. According to D-backs officials, Parra will travel to Phoenix, and he will be evaluated by the team's medical personnel.

Parra has expressed a desire to return to the team, but whether he can come back or not belongs to the D-backs and their medical team. Parra was batting .338 with 24 hits in 17 games, with three doubles in his diamondbacks jersey.

Arredondo will miss 2010 season

The Angels confirmed on Friday that the reliever Jose Arredondo will have Tommy John surgery on his right elbow in January and will miss the entire 2010 season. The right-hander continued his high strikeout rate in 45 innings last season.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Carcillo will forfeit $43,597.56. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund. Flyers' Emery will have surgery

The Philadelphia Flyers announced that goaltender Ray Emery will undergo surgery to repair a torn muscle in his lower abdomen and he is expected to miss six weeks. Dr. William Meyers, from Hahnemann University Hospital will perform the surgery.

Yankees refuse option for Mitre

Maple leafs wants to host outdoor game

Maple Leafs General Manager Brian Burke confirmed on Tuesday that the team is looking to host an outdoor game at BMO Field, home to Major League Soccer's Toronto FC. The Field seats 20,000 for soccer and is located on the site of the old Exhibition Stadium, where the Toronto Blue Jays used to play. "I don't know how this story got out there," Burke started after being asked about the report. "We have told the NHL that we'd like to host an Entry Draft, an outdoor game and an All-Star Game. We think Toronto is a pretty important market, and we think we could do a good job with those things and we'd like to host them.

"We'd like a chance for our fans to boo Bob Gainey the way I got booed in Montreal last year," he added jokingly.
However, Burke said research into hosting a game at BMO Field is "limited to this point." He said adding to the attraction is the "surrounding facilities for hospitality. If it's a bitterly cold day, there is underground parking and there are indoor facilities where fans can get out of the cold weather if they had to," Burke said. Ilya Kovalchuk could return a few days later

Hurricane will term with Manny Legace

President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes announced that the team has agreed to terms with goaltender Manny Legace to a one-year contract. Legace has a career record of 177-92-36, with a save percentage of 23 shutouts in 337 games played with Los Angeles Kings, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues. He served as the backup goaltender during Detroit's 2002 Stanley Cup championship. Legace's best NHL season came in 2005-06, when he posted a new record and ranked third in the NHL in goals and tied for second in shutouts. He spent past three seasons with St. Louis in 2008-09.

Legace was originally drafted by the Hartford Whalers in the eighth round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, beginning the 2009-10 season with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.

White Sox sign Kotsay to a one-year deal

The White Sox announced that they had agreed to sign Kotsay on a one-year contract. Kotsay, who would have been eligible to file for free agency, combined to hit four home runs and 23 RBIs in 67 games with the Red Sox and White Sox in 2009. He was traded to the White Sox on July 28 in exchange for outfielder Brian Anderson. White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen specifically stressed at the end of the 2009 season that he wanted Kotsay back for 2010.

The sale of Coyotes franchise to NHL is a success

U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Redfield T. Baum confirmed that he has approved the sale of the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday, transferring ownership to the NHL. The agreement was reached last Monday during a recess in court proceedings. NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly stressed the following statement:

Now that approval of the proposed sale has been entered by the Court, the National Hockey League will work to close the transaction quickly and assume full control of the Coyotes' business operations. We do not intend to comment publicly on that process. Defenseman Wisniewski is suspended for two games

The National Hockey League announced on Monday.that Anaheim Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski has been suspended for two games without pay, for giving a blow to the head of Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan on Oct. 31.
The incident occurred at the first period of that game.

According to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and his average annual salary, Wisniewski will forfeit $28,497.40, whice goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund. He will miss games on Tuesday against Pittsburgh and Thurday's against Nashville Predators. He will be eligible to return on Saturday against Phoenix Coyotes. Game 3 was delayed by rain

Scuderi is punished due to the hit on Chimera

NHL Senior Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell said that Los Angeles Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi has been fined for a hit on Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jason Chimera on Sunday. "Scuderi went really low and I felt it was a clip," Campbell said in Canada Radio. "Fortunately, he didn't injure the guy. He did hurt him on the play, as far as receiving a cut. But he came back in the game, Chimera, so I didn't think it was a fair play and we fined him."

Campbell also compared Scuderi's hitting style to that of fellow NHL defensemen Rob Blake and Kyle McClaren. "He does hit guys with a hip check," Campbell said. "Rob Blake's name came up and Kyle McLaren's, but they hit guys with their rear ends and they hit them in the hips and they hit them hard, not low."

Rockies may sign O'Dowd and Tracy

The Rockies are going to sign general manager Dan O'Dowd and manager Jim Tracy to contract extensions. It's likely that O'Dowd will be signed first, and then Tracy.

The deals for O'Dowd, who has been in his position since the end of the 1999 season, and Tracy, who joined the club as bench coach last winter and led a dramatic change after replacing Clint Hurdle on May 29, will need to be in place before the Rockies can formally extend offers to the coaching staff. Jason Heyward nursing injured gluteus in Arizona Fall League

The Braves sent Jason Heyward to the Arizona Fall League to gain the experience that will benefit him as he attempts to fulfill the plan of making his Major League debut next year. But over the course of the past week, the highly-regarded outfielder has been sidelined with a strained gluteus muscle. Heyward suffered the leg injury last week and hasn't played since recording one at-bat for the Peoria Saguaros on Saturday. The Braves remain hopeful that Heyward is dealing with a minor injury and will be able to continue playing within the next couple of days.

Heyward, who is among the game's top prospects, hit .286 with three doubles in the 14 at-bats before being sidelined. Because he has recorded just 173 at-bats above Class A, there is a reason to wonder whether the Braves would be willing to allow him starting the 2010 season in the Major League. But the Braves have continued to believe that they are definitely open to this possibility. And Heyward was named Baseball America's Minor League Player of the Year.

MInnesota Wild acquires Kobasew from Boston Bruins

Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced the National Hockey League club has acquired Chuck Kobasew (in wild jersey) from the Boston Bruins in exchange for Craig Weller, a second round pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, who was selected by wild in the fourth round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Kobasew recorded one assist in seven games with the Boston Bruins this season. He has collected 42 points and 56 penalty minutes in 68 regular season contests with the Bruins in 2008-09. He has also tallied 155 points and 272 PIM in 368 career NHL contests during seven seasons with Flames and Bruins. Kobasew collected 49 points in 43 games with Boston College in 2000-01 and was named the MVP of the 2001 NCAA championship.

Canadiens has suspended Kostitsyn

It is reported that Kostitsyn (in canadiens jersey) left the Montreal Canadiens AHL team on Wednesday. According to the Montreal Gazette, he was convinced to return to the farm team after a meeting with Montreal General Manager Bob Gainey. Kostitsyn's brother, Andrei, is also a member of the Canadiens. But, Sergei was suspended on Sept. 30 when he refused to report to Hamilton after being sent down by the Canadiens.

In his first five games with the Bulldogs, Kostitsyn scored four points. According to the report, he rejoined Hamilton on Thursday.

Shawn Chacon was arrested

Authorities told The Associated Press that former Major Leaguer Shawn Chacon was arrested Monday night on charges related to unpaid gambling markers in Nevada. Chacon was arrested at a Colorado bowling alley and put in the Weld County Jail. On Friday, It is reported that Chacon faced a felony charge for owing the Las Vegas hotel Caesars Palace $150,000 .

Chacon, who attended high school in Greeley, pitched eight seasons in the Major Leagues, debuting in 2001 with the Rockies. He played for 4 teams and was an All-Star in 2003. He last pitched in the big leagues with the Astros in 2008.

Coyotes' home opener is sold out

Team President and Chief Operating Officer Douglas Moss announced Thursday that the team's home opener against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night is sold out. "The fan response to the 'Welcome Back WhiteOut' offer has been tremendous and we'd like to thank everyone for their support," Moss said. The Coyotes are holding a "Welcome Back WhiteOut" during the home opener to celebrate the beginning of the 2009-10 season.

The Coyotes spent most of the summer in bankruptcy court before Judge Redfield T. Baum did not allow either the NHL or Canadian businessman Jim Balsillie to buy the team.

Marlins' two coaches will return next week

The Marlins announced pitching coach Mark Wiley and first-base/infield coach Andy Fox would not be retained On Tuesday. Bench coach Carlos Tosca, hitting coach Jim Presley and bullpen coordinator Pierre Arsenault all agreed to return next season and serve under manager Fredi Gonzalez, who was also guaranteed to return this week.

The Marlins also released right-hander Scott Proctor and Dave Davidson. Proctor signed a one-year, $750,000 deal with Florida this offseason but never pitched an inning in 09 season. Davidson, claimed off waivers by the Pirates in April, made just 13 Minor League appearances and pitched one big league inning this season because of shoulder issues.

Stars sign Robidas to a four-year contract

The Dallas Stars signed defenseman Stephane Robidas to a four-year contract extension which worth $13.2 million. The contract puts Robidas undert contract with the Stars through the 2013-14 season.
"We are very happy to sign Stephane to this contract extension," General Manager Joe Nieuwendyk said. "He has been a rock for this team on the blue line and is a key member of our leadership group. Stephane is a consummate professional who gives us everything he has each night."

Twins set tentative weekend rotation

The Twins' pitching rotation has been set for this weekend's series with the Royals. Manager Ron Gardenhire said on Thursday morning that Jeff Manship will start on Friday night and Nick Blackburn on Saturday. But Gardenhire said that things could change depending on the outcome of Thursday's contest in Detroit. If the Twins get to the final day of the regular season, Carl Pavano is likely to start Sunday's finale at the Metrodome.

If the Twins are out of contention by Saturday, the team could have Blackburn deliver a very short outing and then turn to their relievers. "We're not thinking about that right now," Gardenhire said. "We're thinking about winning today and going the rest of the way."

Sharks' Pavelski is out of the game with a body injury

Joe Pavelski will miss a couple of weeks due to a minor procedure performed on him. "Pavs obviously wasn’t at practice," said Sharks Head Coach Todd McLellan. "He was hurt the other night and had a minor procedure this morning. He will be out a couple of weeks with a lower body injury."

During Monday’s practice, Pavelski’s spot was filled by Patrick Marleau, who was flanked by Ryane Clowe and Benn Ferriero. "Pavs plays a huge role," said McLellan. "Today we moved Patty back in there. He's accustomed to playing there and we trust him. I think Patty is a tremendous center."

Astros right-hander Mortensen is arrested

During the second inning of Sunday's season finale against the Angels the Astros announced that rookie right-hander Clayton Mortensen was arrested and detained on Saturday night under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

He was acquired in the trade which sent Matt Holliday to the Cardinals in July. Mortensen made his big debut with St. Louis on July 29. "First off, I want to apologize to the A's and their fans and my family," Mortensen said after Sunday's season finale. "Calling my dad this morning was probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I'm deeply ashamed and embarrassed."

Montreal's defenseman announce the retirement

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Patrice Brisebois will announce his retirement, according to the NHL. Brisebois played in his 1,000th game last season, and finishes his NHL career, includingtwo seasons with the Colorado Avalanche, with 98 goals and 420 points in 1,009 games.

Brisebois' 896 games with the Canadiens is third among the club's defensemen, and his 87 goals and 371 points ranks fifth. As part of Thursday's ceremony, Brisebois will receive the Jean Beliveau Trophy from the Montreal Canadiens' Children Foundation.

Renteria's season ended with elbow surgery

It is assumed for months that Renteria would receive his arthroscopic procedure after the regular season to remove bone spurs and chips from the elbow. But Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Renteria's chances of being ready for next Spring Training would improve if he had surgery as soon as possible. "We need to get this cleaned out," Bochy said Friday. "It's time to get him fixed up and get some rehab in before he goes home."

Renteria has won three Silver Slugger and two Gold Glove awards, but after the Giants signed him to a two-year last December, he hit a career-low .250 in 124 games. Renteria also collected five home runs and 48 RBIs every year. Bochy believed that Renteria's physical condition hampered his performance. "Without question it had something to do with his season," Bochy said. "This game's hard enough to play when you're 100 percent. He was a warrior through it all. He got some big hits for us."

Devils add center Rob Niedermayer

Devils' President Lou Lamoriello Friday announced that the team have signed free agent center Rob Niedermayer. "I felt that we needed a little size and strength down the middle," Lamoriello said. "Now with Travis and Zubie and Robbie, I think we have three pretty good size, strength center ice men. We know Robbie well, of course. We've played against him enough in the Stanley Cup. He's had tremendous Stanley Cup experience and can be used in different roles."

Niedermayer scored 14 goals and 7 assists with Anaheim Ducks in 2008-09. But he lost to the Devils in the 2003 Stanley Cup Finals before achieving the trophy with Ducks in 2007. Niedermayer is expected to join the team by Monday.

Tomko has finished for the season

It was reported on Monday that the right-hander Brett Tomko was declared to have finished for the season. He signed a Minor League deal after being released by the Yankees in August. Although he went 4-1 with a 2.95 ERA in six starts with Oakland, he hasn't pitched since earning his 100th career victory against the Rangers on Aug. 14.

Tomko told media on Tuesday that an MRI had revealed a pinched nerve in his right shoulder, which caused discomfort and numbness throughout his arm. Islanders' Pascal Morency may be suspended

The National Hockey League suspended New York Islanders rookie forward Pascal Morency on Friday for jumping off the bench to fight Calgary's Dion Phaneuf on Thursday night. He will not be albe to play until a hearing is held.

Morency has never played an NHL game, spending the last two seasons with the Islanders' AHL affiliate in Bridgeport. He received a double minor for leaving the players' bench for the purpose of starting a quarrel.

The Trial of Adenhart death will be delayed

It is possible that the trial of the man responsible for the death of Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart will be delayed several months after a new defense attorney was appointed. Prosecutors hoped to advance before a jury this year, but the private attorney fot Gallo quit the case.

Gallo was appointed an public defender on Monday and is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the April crash which killed Adenhart. Authorities say that Gallo was drunk when he drove his minivan through a red light in Fullerton, California on April 9, killing the rookie who had overcome the elbow surgery and begun his pitching life in the big leagues. Regrettablely we may not see him playing on the field in his baseball jersey forever. Gallo will likely stay in prison for nearly 55 years.

Sabres sign forward Tyler Ennis

Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier announced that the team have signed forward Tyler Ennis to a three-year contract on Thursday. Ennis was one of Buffalo's two first-round selections in the 2008 Entry Draft.

The highlight of the season for Ennis was a 6-goal performance on February 27, scoring all of his team's goals. Ennis finished 236 points in 245 career games with Medicine Hat, including a career-high 91 points in 2007-08. He is a native of Edmonton, Alberta, and also a member of Team Canada's at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Ottawa.

Oilers term with Comrie to one-year deal

General Manager Steve Tambellini announced that the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with centre Mike Comrie on a one-year contract. Comrie was originally drafted by Edmonton in the third round in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

He has also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Phoenix Coyotes, New York Islanders and Ottawa Senators. Comrie has posted 154 goals and 184 assists for 338 points in 525 games in the NHL. Last season, beginning the year with the Islanders before being trade to the Senators in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

Coyotes sign Taylor Pyatt to a one-year contract

Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced last week that the Coyotes have signed left wing Taylor Pyatt to a one-year contract. Pyatt recorded 43 penalty minutes in 69 games with the Vancouver Canucks last season and also appeared in four playoff games. Pyatt has registered 191 points and in 532 career NHL games with Vancouver, Buffalo and the New York Islanders.

In 2006-07 season, Pyatt scored a career-high 23 goals and 37 points for Vancouver. Originally he began his career with the New York Islanders before joining the Sabres. After recording 80 points and 131 PIM in 230 games with the Sabres over four seasons, Pyatt was traded to Vancouver Canucks.

Glenn Healy resigns from NHL Players Association

Glenn Healy resigned from the National Hockey League Players Association last week, and after three days Executive Director Paul Kelly was fired. Healy said his credibility was destroyed by a report and comments by Interim Executive Director Ian Penny, including criticism of Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.

"Based on what occurred in the Executive Board Meeting in Chicago, including the presentations made, all of which were accepted and endorsed by the Executive Board, my reputation and credibility with the players has been irreparably harmed and compromised. I can no longer continue to move forward believing that I have the trust of the players."said in Hearly's resignation letter. Healy played 14 NHL seasons with four different teams, and worked as a broadcaster before joining the Association in 2008.

Bruce may not come back to Reds

Although Jay Bruce had three hits for Triple-A Louisville last week, Cincinnati manager Dusty Baker is not definitely sure that Bruce is going to join the Reds' lineup again. After breaking his right wrist in New York, Bruce missed two months playing. The outfielder will rejoin the team in Colorado during a four-game series.

Before Bruce was injured, he had suffered a difficult season. He had 18 homers and 41 Run Batted Ins in 83 games, but his batting was just 207. The catcher Ryan Hanigan had three hits and scored twice that day and was 5-for-12 with a double in his first three games. Now Hanigan is eligible to come off the disabled list several days ago, so is Burce. Fans are looking forward to seeing him playing on the field again in his Reds jersey.

Nathan McIver will remain in Canucks

The President and General Manager Mike Gillis of Vancouver Canucks announced last month that the team have re-signed defenseman Nathan McIver. McIver splits the 2008-09 season between the Anaheim Ducks and Vancouver Canucks. In 18 NHL games with Anaheim Ducks, McIver collected 1 assist and 36 penalty minutes. In addition, in other 28 games with the American Hockey League affiliate--Manitoba Moose, McIver also had 2 assists and 59 penalty minutes. Bon Jovi is preparing for the final contest on TBS

Recently Bon Jovi is preparing for cooperating with TBS, which is the major program of all the Major League Baseball's Division Series. They created a special video featuring the song "We Weren't Born to Follow," which will be performed on Friday. The video includes the highlights of this year's baseball season and the MLB postseasons. Some short versions of the video will appear on TBS to help to promote the coverage.

Matt D'Agostini joins in Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey told the media that the signing of forward Matt D’Agostini to a one-year contract has been confirmed.In 2006-07 in his first season D’Agostini won the Calder Cup with the Bulldogs. He registered 13 points in 22 AHL playoff contests.

Last season D’Agostini got 21 points with the Canadiens. The 22-year-old player was the AHL’s third scorer with 25 points and a plus-7 rating in 20 games when he joined in the Canadiens from the Hamilton Bulldogs. D’Agostini also made his NHL performance in 2008-09.

Stephane Yelle is acquired by Hurricanes

President and General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes Jim Rutherford announced that the team has agreed to add center Stephane Yelle on a one-year contract.

In 2008-09, Yelle scored seven goals and 11 assists in 77 regular-season games with Boston Bruins. He has scored 92 goals and 165 assists,collecting 458 penalty minutes in 921 career NHL regular-season games with Colorado, Calgary and Boston. Yelle was originally drafted by New Jersey in the eighth round in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. On behalf on the Avalanche he won the Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001.

Red Wings acquire Williams

Detroit Red Wings announced that the team has signed forward Jason Williams to a one-year contract. Williams played in 80 games last season with Atlanta Thrashers and Columbus Blue Jackets. In 376 career NHL games, Williams has 205 points in all. He also played 128 games for the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of American Hockey League.

Williams was originally selected by Detroit on September 18, 2000. In 233 games with the Red Wings, he got 49 goals and 67 assists.

Boyd remains in Flames

General Manager Darryl Sutter of Calgary Flames announced that the team have agreed to re-signed forward Dustin Boyd. He can continue to play on the ice in his Flames jersey.

Boyd is a native of Winnipeg, in the game he scored 11 goals and 11 assists in 71 games. Now he is in his third season with the Flames, getting 20 goals and 18 assists for 38 points in 132 career NHL games.

Peeters becomes goaltending consultant in Ducks

Pete Peeters was made goaltending consultant last month by Ducks. He joins the Ducks after serving as the Edmonton Oilers' goaltending coach for the last eight seasons.

In his first full NHL season in 1979-1980 Peeters helped the Philadelphia Flyers build a undefeated record, which is the longest in NHL history. In his 13-year career, Peeters appeared in 489 career games with Philadelphia, Boston and Washington. He was also chosen All-Star for four times, appearing in the mid-season classic in 1980, 1981, 1983 and 1984.We are looking forward to seeing him wearing Ducks jersey.

Lauer was made assistant coach

Lauer joins the group of people in Senators including assistant coach Greg Carvel, goaltending coach Eli Wilson and video coach Tim Pattyson. The Senators also add Chris Schwarz as the team's conditioning coach and Dom Nicoletta as assistant athletic therapist.

Lauer played 30 games with the Senators in 1993, and served as Clouston's assistant for five seasons with the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League(WHL). During his seasons with the Ice from 2002 to 2006, the team won 40 games three times.

Nichol was sent to Sharks

Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Wilson of San Jose Sharks announced that the club has signed Scott Nichol who is originally from Predators.The contract lasts for one year."He utilizes his speed and compete-factor to be involved every time he steps on the ice. We’re very familiar with his game and we're happy to have him on our team as opposed to playing against him."said Wilson.

Nichol has spent the last four seasons with the Nashville Predators. In 43 games during the 2008-09 season, Nichol collected 10 points with 41 penalty minutes. He has played in 417 NHL games for Nashville, Chicago, Calgary and Buffalo, collecting 92 points in all.

Chipchura joins in Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced on July 11 that they have signed forward Kyle Chipchura to a one-year contract. In 2007-08, Chipchura led the Hamilton Bulldogs to the first Calder Cup Championship, scoring 13 points and 20 penalty minutes in 22 AHL contests.

Last season Chipchura registered 3 points and 5 penalty minutes in 13 regular games with the Canadiens. He also got 35 points with 65 penalty minutes in 51 AHL games. Besides, Chipchura acted as a captain of Canada’s gold-medal squad at the 2006 World Junior Championship and led the team with four goals in six games.

Kovalev was back to Canadiens

Montreal Canadiens reported that the club have re-signed forward Alexei Kovalev to a two-year contract. Kovalev helped the Canadiens in scoring with 65 points in 78 games though he was sent home for a few days during the season.This season he had 34 goals and 84 points, and led the Canadiens to the best record in the Eastern Conference.

Kovalev never played with captain Saku Koivu who is an unrestricted free agent, obviously it showed that he wasn't ready for a top-line character.

Begin joined Dallas Stars

The Montreal Canadiens forward Steve Begin left his original team and joined Dallas Stars in exchange for Stars' defenseman Doug Janik in March.This season he joined 42 games for the Canadiens,getting 6 goals and 4 assists.It is said that he is an energetic player who plays a significant role in the team.

This season Janik has played in 13 games with the Stars ,getting only a single assist with 2 penalty minutes.And in 159 NHL games,he has got 3 goal and 13 assists with 121 penalty minutes for the Sabres,Lightning and Stars.

A new joint announcement was made by NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and President of NBC Sports Ken Schanzer through the 2010-11 season. The goal of this extension is sharing partnership,programming and production innovations,awards and critical acclaim.
